Meet Super Trooper!

The most critical protection element for any pasture-raised farm operation is a Livestock Guardian Dog. The most common breeds are: Great Pyrenees, Turkish Akbash, Anatolian Shepherd, and Kangal. Each of these breeds have different personality traits for different protection situations. The Turkish Akbash is widely considered to be the ‘chillest’ of the bunch once fully grown, 2 years.

For our farm we settled on a Great Pyrenees/Akbash mix. Meet Trooper! Trooper was born in 2018 to a 100% Great Pyrenees mother and 100% Akbash father. Prior to joining our livestock protection force, she and her sister, Storm (RIP), worked at a small farm in Clarksville where they watched over sheep, goats, and a few chickens. It took no time at all for Trooper to settle into the farm. She quickly learned the house was the hub for the humans, the chicken tractor was where the meat chickens spent their time, and all the places the egg layers would free-range to throughout the day. She herself is free range dog and wanders the property to ensure she’s protecting her crew. Since Trooper arrived we have not lost a single chicken. She certainly is a Super

Be warned, when you visit the farm do not leave your things (shoes/hats/jackets/leather good/etc) sitting on the porch thinking they are secure. They are not. Trooper loves nothing more than to carry things off. Sometimes she’ll chew them, sometimes it just for her own entertainment to watch us wandering the yard and fields looking for them.
